Michael Brennan (Mus Musculus) - aka "Mouse" 

Michael Brennan nickname "Mouse" was born the 15th of October 1975. Michael commenced playing hockey at (6) six years of age with Rangeville Hockey Club. He represented Toowoomba in all age divisions from Under 11 to Senior Men from 1983 to 1992 commencing from (8) eight years of age. Michael represented the Darling Downs in primary and secondary school boys hockey from 1985 to 1991. During this time he represented Queensland at both primary and secondary school level. In 1992 Michael was selected in the Australian Secondary School boys team to tour New Zealand.

In 1993 Michael accepted a scholarship to attend the Australian Institute of Sport in Perth. 

Michael represented Queensland at all age levels from Under 13 to Senior Men (Queensland Blades in the National Hockey League). In 2000 Michael captained the Blades. 

As at September 2001, Michael had achieved 100 test caps for Australia. He gained his 100th at the Olympics in Sydney 2000. The caps were achieved  on the following Australian Tours:

  • 1995 Indira Gandhi International Gold Cup India
  • 1995 Four Nations Tournament India
  • 1996 Champions Trophy India
  • 1997 European Tour Germany, Belgium
  • 1997 Five Nations Tournament Pakistan
  • 1997 Champions Trophy Adelaide - Silver Medal
  • 1998 World Cup Netherlands
  • 1998 Commonwealth Games Kuala Lumpur - Gold Medal
  • 1999 Champions Trophy Brisbane - Gold Medal
  • 2000 Four Nations Tournament Perth
  • 2000 Champions Trophy Netherlands
  • 2000 Olympics Sydney - Bronze Medal

Michael retired from International hockey in 2001 and pursued his passion for harness racing working as a trainer and jockey. His love of the game saw him move to Perth in 2003 to be near the Australian squad and a return to international hockey. His comeback was a resounding success and in 2004 Michael was selected in the Australian Mens Olympic team  to compete in Athens. Always the bridesmaids and never the bride the Australians until Athens had been silver and bronze medalists three times respectively. The Kookaburra's were victorious in Athens defeating the Netherlands 2-1 in the final to bring home the Gold Medal.

In 2004 Michael became the first inductee into the Rangeville Hockey Club Hall of Fame.
