 RANGEVILLE HOCKEY CLUB FOUNDER

Mr Leon T. W. Giltrow

3/6/1931 - 12/8/2011

In 1961 Leon T.W Giltrow OAM a barber from Ballina moved to Toowoomba where he played a season of field hockey. During that first season Len saw a need for the Toowoomba hockey competition to be expanded so he took it upon himself to form the Rangeville Hockey Club. He settled on the club colours of red, white and blue and the bulldog logo in honour of his beloved Footscray Football Club (now the Western Bulldogs). With great foresight Len continued to look to the future and once the fledgling club was established he then moved on to form the North's Hockey Club. The Foundation Day Cup is played annually in honour of Len and his contribution to the development of both clubs. Highlights of Len's career include State Senior representation as a goal keeper and later as a Queensland Junior and U21 Coach, he also coached the Northern Territory Senior team. Len is a life member of both clubs and presented the Foundation Day Cup to North's in 2004 after the inaugural competition.
